PHU QUOC ISLAND

Once a quiet and forgotten outpost, Vietnam's largest island is quickly turning into one of the region's top beach destinations. Palm fringed beaches with fine white sand, and a host of luxury beach resorts to choose from, plus easy accessibility via regular flights from Saigon make Phu Quoc Island an ideal choice for a tropical island getaway.

Places to See/Activities

Beaches and Water Sports
Most of the island's resorts are situated along the west coast with its picture perfect beaches and turquoise waters. Snorkeling and scuba diving are popular here, and can be arranged through resorts and local operators. The best snorkeling and scuba diving is around the fantastic coral reefs surrounding the An Tho Islands and Turtle Island. Both can be reached by boat and are teeming with amazing marine life.

Hiking is possible in the forested inland mountains of the island. It is advisable to hire a guide as there are no marked trails.

Food

Some of Vietnam's best pepper and fish sauce (nuoc mam) come from Phu Quoc Island. There are lots of pepper plantations on the island, many of which can be visited.

Weather

Tropical climate with the dry season lasting from November to April, and the rainy season from June to October.
