Video from the Central Highlands

Video Transcript (if javascript is disabled or flash player unavailable):

Vietnam has a great variety of scenery, perhaps the most beautiful in the Central Highlands. Most tourists to this region only visit Dalat, with few making it north to Kon Tum, and nearly none going further than that. However, a trip through the Central Highlands between Kon Tum and Route 9 will take you along the old Ho Chi Minh Trail, through spectacular scenery full of extraordinarily friendly people.

A few hours outside of Kon Tum, the road goes through the Troung Son Mountains, covered in lush green jungle, and dotted with scenic hill tribe villages.

The town of Phuoc Son is the best overnight stop heading north from Kon Tum, with a nice clean guesthouse, terrific mountain views, and a great local market.

Between Phuoc Son and Aluoi, Highway 14 continues through the Troung Son Mountains. You'll pass waterfalls, rivers, and villages with beautiful rong houses.

The locals here see very few visitors, and you can be sure you'll have a difficult time leaving!

Aluoi is an interesting town with plenty of friendly people, and the trip further north couldn't be better. If you can make it to the old Ho Chi Minh Trail, it will be a highlight of your journey.

The video above contains footage from the Central Highlands between Dalat and Route 9, traveling up Highway 14 on the old Ho Chi Minh Trail. This is one of the most beautiful areas of Vietnam with very few tourists. The towns of Phuoc Son and Aluoi make great stopping points on this journey.
